Ukraine is grateful to Poland for financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support and is convinced that cooperation between the countries will continue to strengthen. In particular, Poland will take an active part in the reconstruction of Ukraine, will help fulfill tasks within the framework of our country’s accession to the European Union.

This was said by Oleksandr Hryban, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, during his speech at the “Needs of Ukraine and European Cooperation” Conference on 5 October 2022.

“Already today, we are practically completing and implementing the Ukraine Recovery Conference presented at the conference in Lugano.  The readiness of the Government and business circles of Poland to take an active part in the reconstruction of our state is important for Ukraine. We will welcome the decision of the Polish side to practically join to complete the United24 government platform. The collected funds will be used for the reconstruction of Ukraine as well as for military and medical needs. I would like to express my gratitude for the initiative of the Republic of Poland to take the lead in the reconstruction of Kharkiv Oblast.

Ukraine also calls on Poland and Polish business to join the implementation of projects in the framework of the Ukraine Recovery Plan. In particular, projects in the fields of logistics, infrastructure, expansion of transport corridors to the EU are considered important for both countries. Polish experience in increasing energy efficiency and energy saving is important for Ukraine,” Oleksandr Hryban said.

Separately, the Deputy Minister focused on the importance of investments in the Ukrainian economy and welcomed the initiative of the Polish State Export Credit Insurance Corporation (KUKE) to cover the risks of importers and provide them with financial support in the short term.

“We would be very grateful if the Government of Poland could consider extending the term of such guarantees. And in this way, more long-term capital investments by Polish investors in Ukraine could be made.

We also ask you to consider the possibility of insuring additional risks for Polish investors with the support of the Government,” Oleksandr Hryban stressed.

The Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine emphasized that Poland had been providing active and comprehensive support to Ukraine since the first day of full-scale russian aggression. More than 3.5 million Ukrainians moved to Poland, where they received home shelters. Thanks to Poland’s initiatives and direct assistance, Ukraine received strong financial, humanitarian and military aid. Only during the international donor conference organized by Poland and Sweden, $6.5 billion was collected for Ukraine. Poland has become a hub for collecting and sending humanitarian aid from other countries to Ukraine. The Polish side transfers up to 30-50 wagons of food, medicine, etc. to Ukraine on a daily basis. Military aid is also extremely powerful.

“No less important for us is Poland’s tough and consistent position on increasing sanctions pressure on the russian federation. We welcome Poland’s position regarding the need to seizure the assets of the aggressor country. By combining efforts in the sanctions pressure, our countries will be able to obtain a more powerful effect in the struggle on the economic front, which is no less important than our military successes on the battlefield,” Oleksandr Hryban said.

In addition, the Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to Poland for supporting Ukraine in matters of accession to the EU and NATO. As Oleksandr Hryban noted, Ukraine is interested in strengthening interdepartmental cooperation with Poland for the successful implementation of tasks that involve the achievement of the ambitious goal of our country’s membership in the European Union.

According to Oleksandr Hryban, it is also important for Ukraine to continue cooperation within the framework of regional formats and initiatives, such as the Lublin Triangle. And also in full-scale involvement in the Three Seas Initiative.
