On 30 November, First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko met in London with Baroness Joanna Penn, Parliamentary Secretary to HM Treasury, the leadership of the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation and representatives of the authorities responsible for sanctions policy.

Yuliia Svyrydenko presented the measures to strengthen Ukraine’s sanctions policy implemented by the Interdepartmental Working Group on Sanctions Policy.

The participants of the meeting discussed the effectiveness of the measures taken, further priorities of the sanctions policy, measures to counteract the circumvention of sanctions as well as ways to ensure proper coordination of this policy.

“Both Ukraine and the UK are actively working on the imposition of sanctions against individuals and companies involved in the war against our country. It is important that we continue to coordinate efforts and exchange information. To achieve the greatest effect of the sanctions, it is also extremely important to mirror restrictions imposed,” Yuliia Svyrydenko said.

As a reminder, Ukraine has intensified the work on strengthening sanctions pressure on the terrorist state, persons involved in the war who support the kremlin’s policy and pose a threat to the security of our country. For this purpose, a special Interdepartmental Working Group on the Implementation of the State Sanctions Policy was established and chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko.

In October, Ukraine adopted, in particular, a sanctions package against 3,800 persons from Russia and Belarus. It partially mirrored the sanctions adopted earlier by our partners.

Moreover, new packages of sanctions proposals were submitted to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. They included more than 4,000 legal entities and individuals: representatives of the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation and political elites of the terrorist state.

The United Kingdom also applies restrictions causing pain to the terrorist state. Thus, since the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, the UK has imposed sanctions against more than 1,000 individuals and more than 100 companies. Sanctions lists are periodically updated.

The UK has also banned Russian vessels and vessels chartered by Russia from entering its ports, imposed sanctions against Russia’s aviation sector, etc.
