The Ministry of Economy will receive free legal advice from the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (“Freshfields”) on creating the Development Fund of Ukraine to attract private and public capital for the future reconstruction and recovery of Ukraine. The corresponding Memorandum of Understanding on the provision of such legal advice was signed by the parties in London during the Ukraine Recovery Conference.

The Development Fund of Ukraine, launched in cooperation with BlackRock Financial Markets Advisory, will be the first national development organization for post-war reconstruction and development of infrastructure, energy, agriculture, IT and other key areas.

“Legal support of our international partners in creating mechanisms for attracting investors to the reconstruction of Ukraine is very important for us because we strive to organize this process as efficiently as possible to ensure the recovery of our economy as soon as possible,” said First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko.

“We are proud to work alongside the Ukrainian government as it looks to its future. The creation of this Development Fund will significantly speed up the reconstruction of Ukraine,” said Georgia Dawson, Senior Partner of Freshfields.

For reference:

In the past year, employees of Freshfields have completed more than 75,000 hours of pro bono work with clients around the world, from individual asylum seekers to the world’s leading charitable organizations. Other related pro bono matters handled by Freshfields included consultations to Save the Children International on a number of mandates relating to their response to the war in Ukraine.
