The role of women in the reconstruction of the country will be significant, so the Government provides them with a number of support programs and opportunities for implementation. This was noted by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Tetiana Berezhna during her speech at the Sustainability in Action: Lessons of Ukrainian Women in Business Forum held at the London Stock Exchange as part of the Ukraine Recovery Conference.

The event was attended by Julia Hoggett, Chief Executive Officer at the London Stock Exchange, and Nusrat Ghani, Minister of State at the Department for Business and Trade, Minister of State for the Investment Security Unit, and Minister for Industry and Economic Security.

“Since the beginning of the war, when most of the defenders holding the front are men, Ukrainian women have a great responsibility to do everything possible to support the home front. Both in a general sense – to ensure the economic stability of the state, and in a personal sense – to take care of the family, children and maintain the family business. After our victory, the role of women in the reconstruction of the country will also be significant. Therefore, the Ministry of Economy offers a number of support programs for women to give them more opportunities. In particular, we provide access to financial resources for doing and developing business through the provision of grants. More than 2,000 women entrepreneurs have already received such grants from the state and are implementing their business projects, opening new companies, developing existing ones, creating new jobs, paying taxes and maintaining our economic front. In general, the state has already invested in the development of small and medium-sized women’s businesses through grants worth more than half a billion Ukrainian hryvnias,” said Tetiana Berezhna.

The Deputy Minister of Economy also reminded that the Government was consistently working on overcoming the gender pay gap and approving the corresponding national strategy and action plan in this direction covering the period until 2030. The goal is to reduce the pay gap between women and men as much as possible, overcome the stereotypes in society and among women themselves and also convince them that they are capable of receiving a higher reward for their work, can hold managerial positions and be economically independent.

The Sustainability in Action: Lessons of Ukrainian Women in Business Forum was attended by Ukrainian and British government officials, business leaders as well as about 80 representatives of the business community.
