From now on, schools, kindergartens and hospitals will be able to participate in the EU and Government Light Bulb Exchange Programme

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine has analyzed the demand from the population for the program of exchanging incandescent light bulbs for LED bulbs and states that the immediate needs of households have already been almost satisfied. Therefore, the second wave of the project, which will expand to new segments of consumption, will start in the near future. These are also the needs of the population, but now in educational and health care institutions. This was reported by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko.

“I thank to all Ukrainians who joined the light bulb exchange program, which is aimed at reducing electricity consumption. Since the start of the program, 4 million Ukrainians have exchanged 20 million light bulbs. But our goal is to replace about 50 million incandescent light bulbs in order to reduce the load on the country’s energy system,” Yuliia Svyrydenko said.

In this regard, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine is conducting a general communication campaign with regional military administrations regarding the possibility of legal entities, namely heads of healthcare institutions and educational institutions, to participate in the Program. Citizens may still exchange bulbs according to the previously approved procedure at Ukrposhta branch post offices that continue to participate in the program.

“I would like to join First Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko and thank all Ukrainians who participated and are participating in the Light Bulb Exchange Program. Together with the tireless work of Ukrainian defenders who protect civil infrastructure, energy workers, and international support, these efforts helped Ukraine survive the winter. Russia has not succeeded in plunging Ukraine into cold and darkness, and it will not succeed in doing so in the future. I am glad to see that the program extends cooperation to state institutions, as energy saving will remain extremely important,” the Head of the Delegation of the EU to Ukraine Matti Maasikas said.

Not only kindergartens, schools, vocational schools or universities, but also sports and music schools, driving schools and any other educational institutions may take part in the program. Any polyclinics and hospitals, dental clinics, laboratories and other medical institutions will also be able to exchange light bulbs.

Each of the aforementioned legal entities has received the right to exchange:

  • 3 light bulbs per 10 square meters in classrooms, teacher’s rooms, wards, treatment rooms;
  • 2 lamps per 10 square meters for public places.

In order to exchange a light bulb, it will be necessary to first send a request for the need to receive LED bulbs through the Diia portal. For this you need to:

  • log in to the Diia portal using the digital signature key of a legal entity;
  • check information about the enterprise.

Important: After submitting the application, representatives of Ukrposhta will contact the specified phone number and provide further instructions for obtaining energy-saving light bulbs.

  • go to the section Services and select Exchange of light bulbs and start filling in the request as needed;
  • specify the area in the calculator to see the limit and select the quantity and types of light bulbs within the limit;
  • put a mark on the agreement to hand over the same quantity of incandescent light bulbs;
  • indicate the location of the organization;
  • check and confirm the data related to the generated request;
  • sign a request with a digital signature key, if needed.

After submitting the application, Ukrposhta representatives will contact you at the specified phone number within a week and provide further instructions for obtaining energy-saving light bulbs.

Recipients of LED light bulbs will be obliged to hand over the appropriate quantity of incandescent light bulbs to local self-government authorities for their further disposal.

For reference:

The Light Bulb Exchange Program is supported by the European Union in response to the call of President V. Zelenskyy and is implemented by the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, JSC Ukrposhta in all regions of Ukraine, except for the war zone and temporarily occupied territories. The EU-funded program is a component of the European Union’s support for the Ukrainian energy front, as one of the energy efficiency tools that will ensure the balance of energy consumption during peak hours.
