Program for switching to energy-efficient lamps launches nationwide

The Government and EU program to exchange incandescent lamps for LED lamps is now extending to cities and towns all over the country. Only in Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk oblasts, the service will be launched a day later – on 9 February. Anyone can order the exchange of lamps, which is carried out under a joint program of the Government of Ukraine and the European Union, in the Diia app.

“The lamp exchange program for Ukrainian residents is aimed at reducing electricity consumption during peak hours. We see that citizens have eagerly supported the Government’s initiative and are actively ordering lamps for exchange. We hope that this will have a positive impact on the Ukrainian energy system in the near future. Therefore, the number of scheduled and unscheduled power outages will decrease,” said First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko

Previously, the program was available only in oblast centers as well as in Kryvyi Rih, Kramatorsk and Pokrovsk. Now it has been scaled up, and another 6 million energy-saving lamps have been delivered to 1,300 Ukrposhta offices in cities and towns across the country. And by the end of February, even the smallest villages will receive the lamps so that every Ukrainian can enjoy the service and contribute to saving electricity.

Ukrainians have already exchanged almost 1.5 million old lamps for new ones. Most lamps were exchanged in Kyiv – more than 230,000 pcs. In Dnipro – 130,000, in Lviv – 94,000, and in Kharkiv – 91,000.

For reference

Effective 30 January, Ukrainians will be able to exchange old incandescent lamps for new energy-saving LED lamps. To do this, you need to submit an application in Diia and then receive them at one of the Ukrposhta offices. Each person can exchange 5 old lamps. As part of the program, the European Union has financed 35 million energy-saving LED lamps for Ukraine, and the French government will provide another 5 million.

Experts estimate that switching to this type of lamps will reduce electricity consumption by 7-10% during peak times. This will help significantly reduce electricity shortages in the system.

The program was supported by the European Union in response to the call of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and is being implemented by the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Ukrposhta in all regions of Ukraine (except for the temporarily occupied territories and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea). The new EU-funded program is part of the European Union’s support for Ukraine’s energy front.
