The Norwegian Refugee Council will provide financial support to relocated Ukrainian businesses – Yuliia Svyrydenko

The Ministry of Economy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Norwegian Refugee Council on the provision of financial assistance to relocated businesses. On behalf of the Ministry of Economy, the document was signed by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko, on the Norwegian side – by Roberto Vila Sexto, Country Director for Ukraine, the Norwegian Refugee Council.

“As a result of russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, business was forced to relocate from regions where active hostilities are taking place to safer ones. To date, 800 enterprises have been relocated with the support of the state, 80% of which are already working at their new location. The Memorandum of Understanding signed today with the Norwegian Refugee Council will allow providing additional assistance, in particular financial, to such enterprises so that they can quickly adapt and increase production capacity in new regions,” Yuliia Svyrydenko said.

The memorandum provides for that the Ministry of Economy will provide the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) with information on relocated businesses, after which the NRC will independently select the businesses for providing financial and other types of assistance. One of the primary selection criteria is that the company should be relocated to Lviv or Ternopil oblasts, have clear business ideas and the potential to create jobs, especially among young people, women and persons with disabilities.

As part of this Memorandum, the NRC plans to provide direct assistance to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises for 12 months.

We will remind you that the government business relocation program is implemented by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine together with oblast state administrations, as well as Ukrzaliznytsia and Ukrposhta. An enterprise that has decided to relocate from dangerous regions may receive a package of state support, which includes the following options: selection of a location for the enterprise’s facilities; assistance with transportation to a new location; assistance in the resettlement of employees and the search for new employees; support in restoring logistics, purchasing raw materials and finding sales markets. Thanks to the relocation program, it was possible to save more than 35,000 jobs.
