Ukraine and Portugal are discussing humanitarian demining, support and cooperation of private business, as well as investment risk insurance for Ukrainian and Portuguese companies. Portugal is also planning to consider the possibility of restoring several infrastructure facilities damaged during the shelling in Zhytomyr region. This was discussed during a meeting between Yulia Svyrydenko, First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Minister of Economy of Ukraine, and Antonio Vasco Alves Machado, Ambassador of Portugal to Ukraine.

“I would like to thank Portugal for supporting Ukraine during this war. This is very important for improving our defence capabilities, but economic support for our country can be no less important. Ukraine now needs to attract foreign investment, and this is almost impossible without the introduction of full-fledged war risk insurance instruments. We hope that we will be able to deepen cooperation between national export credit agencies. We are also looking for opportunities to expand funding for programmes to support the private sector of economics, including grant programmes for small and medium-sized businesses and humanitarian demining,” said Yulia Svyrydenko.

In turn, Antonio Vasco Alves Machado said that Portugal is interested in deepening cooperation with Ukraine. He also confirmed the readiness of the Portuguese state-owned enterprise Parque Escolar to consider the possibility of restoring several facilities in the Zhytomyr region.
