100 days of IWG: 4,500 people already sanctioned, 6,000 coming

100 днів МРГ: ухвалено та запропоновано санкції проти понад 10 500 осіб

Sanctions have been introduced against almost 4,500 individuals and legal entities; recommendations have been developed against over 6,000 more people. These are the interim results of the Interdepartmental Working Group (IWG) on the implementation of the sanctions policy for 100 days.

“I believe that such pace will allow to fulfill the task of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to increase sanctions pressure on the aggressor. In the future, we will only intensify work in this area.

Summing up the interim results, I would like to thank my colleagues for their work. The Security Service of Ukraine, National Agency on Corruption Prevention, Defence Intelligence, Prosecutor General’s Office, National Bank, professionals of ministries and departments involved in the development of proposals. Everyone who made a contribution to the fight on the extremely important sanctions front,” noted the Head of IWG, First Deputy Prime Minister –Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko.

During the 100 days of work performed by the Interdepartmental Working Group on Implementation of Sanctions Policy, the National Security and Defense Council adopted, and the President of Ukraine, by his decrees, implemented sanctions against 3,117 individuals and 1,374 legal entities. Pre-approved sanctions were worked out by the IWG and recommended for consideration by the National Security and Defense Council.

Already sanctioned individuals include:

  • children and relatives of Vladimir Putin and Sergey Lavrov, businessman Sergey Roldugin, known as “putin’s wallet”; 
  • top political and military leadership of russia and belarus. In particular, commander of the United Forces in Ukraine Sergey Surovikin and the “butcher of Mariupol” Mikhail Mizintsev, Minister of Defense of the republic of belarus Viktor Khrenin, State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Volfovich;
  • russian oligarchs from the Forbes list and their entourage – Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, Mikhail Prokhorov, Suleyman Kerimov, Yury Kovalchuk, etc. – a total of 256 people;
  • clergy and propagandists. In particular, Vladimir Gundyayev, Olga Skabeyeva, Zakhar Prilepin, Ivan Okhlobystin and others. 
  • representatives of the so-called “governments of the LPR/DPR, the occupying “authorities” of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, collaborators, etc.

Among the legal entities:

  • banks, in particular Alfa-Bank (russia), companies related to Sberbank of russia, VTB Bank;
  • enterprises of the mining industry and processing, metallurgy, etc., in particular Alrosa, Tatneft and Tatoil, Lukoil group enterprises;
  • transport and logistics companies, airports, airlines, etc.;
  • Military industrial complex enterprises, etc.

In addition, proposals for the introduction of sanctions against over 6,000 more individuals and legal entities were considered and recommended to be sent to the National Security and Defense Council for consideration. In particular, regarding:

  • more than 1,000 representatives of the russian government, military leadership, banking sector, etc.;
  • more than 2,000 propagandists, cultural figures, bloggers, athletes, television and radio companies, publishing houses, etc.;
  • more than 3,000 enterprises of the military-industrial complex.

For reference:

Interdepartmental Working Group on Implementation of Sanctions Policy was founded by decision of the Cabinet of ministers dated 30 August. It includes representatives of the Ministries of Economy, Finance, Justice, Internal and Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories.

Representatives of the Office of the President, National Bank of Ukraine, Prosecutor General’s Office, Security Service of Ukraine, Foreign Intelligence Service, the National Agency on Corruption Prevention, and professionals from other public authorities and departments are involved in the work of the group.

Its key tasks include the analysis of the current state of implementing the applied sanctions, the development and submission of relevant recommendations

The IWG consolidates the efforts of all bodies related to the preparation of sanctions, considers and recommends proposals for the introduction of sanctions for consideration by the National Security and Defense Council.
