After the destruction of Kakhovka HPP dam, organized by the russian occupiers, the flooding of the first four settlements of the left-bank Kherson oblast, which took the biggest hit after the dam blowing up, was analyzed.

As of June 14, almost 19,000 houses and structures with various levels of flooding were found in the settlements of Korsunka, Kozachi Laheri, Nova Kakhovka, and Raiske. Such data are given in the report prepared as part of a joint project by UNDP, KSE Institute, Vox Ukraine with the support of the European Union and in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development.

In total, 18,968 buildings were analyzed and different levels of flooding risk were identified according to the following parameters:

• Possibly flooded: 7,206 houses identified

• Completely flooded: 9,573 houses identified

• Partially flooded: flooding recorded in 2,189 houses

The analysis is based on UNITAR satellite images, open sources, in particular, elevation data from NASA DEM, etc. These data will allow not only to have an independent analysis of the damage caused by russia, but also to quickly and efficiently plan the restoration of the affected territories.

“Unfortunately, the most affected residential buildings are 57% of all facilities. Russia’s unprecedented crime caused not only the threat of an ecological disaster. The occupiers intended to cause economic losses, slow down the de-occupation of the territories and inflict as many losses as possible on Ukraine. We currently have interim results of the research, which will be continued. However, we must take into account the fact that the scale of the disaster may increase, because we are dealing with a terrorist state that continues to commit crimes against Ukraine. Thanks to this research, the Government will have an important information resource that will help mobilize additional resources and counteract russia,” Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy of Ukraine, commented.
